Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal and health information oDakter and the Doctors on our Platform collect, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have regarding that information. By using the oDakter website and mobile application, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here and in the Informed Consent for Telemedicine Services that you accept before your first consultation.

I. What We Do

oDakter is a technology platform that connects patients with independent, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) registered Doctors for online medical consultations. oDakter is not itself a medical service provider; the Doctors who consult with you are responsible for the medical advice given and are professionally bound to keep your health information confidential.

II. What Counts as Health Information

"Health Information" means any information relating to your health that we or a Doctor collect through the Platform, including your medical history, symptoms, diagnoses, prescriptions, lab or diagnostic reports, treatment notes, and any related images, audio, or written records generated during a consultation.

III. How We Protect Your Privacy

We apply administrative, physical, and technical safeguards — including encryption — to protect your Health Information, and we require Doctors to comply with the BMDC Telemedicine Guidelines 2020, the BMDC Code of Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics, and applicable Bangladeshi data protection laws.

IV. How We Use and Disclose Health Information

We use your Health Information to provide and improve the Services, including:

Patient care — maintaining a record of your consultations, prescriptions, and treatment history so Doctors can provide appropriate care and follow-up.

Care coordination — sharing relevant information with other Doctors, pharmacies, or diagnostic labs involved in your care, where necessary.

Quality and safety — reviewing consultations internally to improve the quality of care and train our support staff.

Video consultations — consultations are conducted over an encrypted video call between you and the Doctor. We do not record video consultations. We may, with your consent, retain a limited audio recording or activity log of a consultation solely to resolve disputes about whether or how a consultation took place; access to these records is restricted to authorized personnel and they are retained only as long as necessary.

We may also disclose Health Information where required by law (for example, in response to a court order or public health reporting obligation), to prevent a serious threat to someone's health or safety, or with your explicit written consent for any other purpose, including marketing. Wherever practical, information shared for purposes other than your direct care is de-identified. You may withdraw consent for any optional use at any time, though this will not affect uses that already took place.

V. Doctor Responsibilities

Doctors delivering Services through oDakter are independent, BMDC-registered practitioners who must maintain the confidentiality of your Health Information, follow the BMDC Code of Conduct, and notify you (through oDakter) if a breach affecting your information occurs. We may update our privacy practices from time to time; updates will be posted on the oDakter website and app.

VI. Your Rights Over Your Health Information

Subject to applicable law, you may:

Request a copy of your medical records held on the Platform.

Request that we correct or update inaccurate or incomplete information.

Request that we restrict certain uses or disclosures of your information.

Request that we contact you only through a specific phone number or address.

Request deletion of your personal information, subject to any legal or regulatory retention requirements.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at info@odaktar.com. We may ask you to make certain requests in writing and may charge a reasonable fee for physical copies of records.

VII. Personal Information We Collect

Beyond Health Information, we collect:

From patients: your name, age, gender, contact details, account credentials, and technical information about how you use the app or website (device type, browser, and similar diagnostic data).

From Doctors: professional details such as name, BMDC registration number, qualifications, experience, and chamber information (shown publicly on the Platform), and confidential details such as NID/passport number, email, and phone number (accessible only to authorized oDakter staff).

We may also collect limited information automatically through cookies and analytics tools (such as Firebase Analytics) to understand how the Platform is used and to improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work correctly without them.

VIII. How We Use and Share Personal Information

We use Personal Information to provide, maintain, and improve the Platform; to communicate with you about your account or appointments; and, with your consent, to tell you about new features or services. We may share Personal Information with service providers who help us operate the Platform (bound by confidentiality obligations), as required by law, to protect the safety of any person, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We do not sell your personal information.

IX. Children

The Platform is not intended for use by individuals under 18. Consultations for minors must be arranged and consented to by a parent or legal guardian.

X. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Communications such as email and SMS are not encrypted end-to-end; avoid sharing sensitive details through these channels beyond what's necessary.

XI. Third-Party Links

The Platform may link to third-party websites or services. This Policy does not cover those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies separately.

XII. Retention and Deletion

We retain Personal and Health Information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy or as required by law. When you request deletion, we remove your information from active systems, though de-identified or archived data may be retained where legally required.

XIII. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on the Platform along with the updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.

XIV. Contact Us

If you have questions, requests, or complaints about this Privacy Policy or how your information is handled, please contact us at info@odaktar.com.
